Insta / Smart Building App

Insta is a German electronics company with over 45 years of experience in sensors, controls, and building automation. Their products manage lighting, temperature, ventilation, and sun protection in commercial and residential spaces, turning technical infrastructure into intuitive living environments.

Droxic built native iOS and Android applications that give Insta’s trade clients a tool to install, configure, and maintain devices on site using Bluetooth and ZigBee connectivity. Within two months of launch, daily active users on iOS increased by 35%.

01

Context & Problem

Insta designs and manufactures smart building components: sensors, voice controls, timers, buttons, and actuators that manage lighting, HVAC, motorised blinds, and sun protection. The hardware is sophisticated, but for the professional installers and integrators who configure these systems, the process needed to be simpler.

Droxic built native mobile applications for both iOS and Android that let technicians install, configure, and maintain devices on site. The apps had to connect via Bluetooth and ZigBee, support multiple device types, and follow current UI/UX standards. Critically, they needed to be white-label, so trade partners could deploy them under their own branding.

The challenge was building something that required deep hardware integration, real-time device communication, and a clean interface, while keeping the experience lean enough for an engineer working on a ladder.

Our Solution & Technologies

The apps cover the full range of building automation products. Technicians can manage HVAC systems, LED lighting with dimming and colour temperature adjustments, and motorised blinds. They can also register new devices to the network. The white-label architecture lets trade partners deploy under their own brand identity, making Droxic’s work invisible to the end customer.

Project Timeline & Team

Duration

9 months

Droxic designed and developed both native applications over nine months, taking them from initial concept through to App Store and Google Play launch. The project required close collaboration with Insta’s hardware engineering team to ensure the apps worked reliably across the full range of Bluetooth and ZigBee devices in the product line.

05

Impact & Results

The native applications launched on both the App Store and Google Play and delivered immediate results.

Daily active users on iOS increased by 35% within the first two months. Both apps received positive feedback, with installers highlighting the improved setup flows and intuitive controls for on-site device configuration.

For Insta, the white-label capability opened a new channel: trade partners can now offer branded smart building apps to their own customers, extending the reach of Insta’s technology without additional development effort.
