Slav has used this library in several projects since he joined Droxic. He finds React to be a very powerful tool. React is easy to set up and it helps to deliver significant performance optimizations to your project by smartly setting up your component architecture. Slav adds that React is very flexible. React allows Slav to do things in multiple ways, but it is not constrained to any. Our Full Stack Developer believes that React will continue to be very well documented and maintained as billion-dollar businesses are built on.
Slav have personally found this trend extremely interesting to follow. He has noticed an increase in appreciation for Node.js, especially in the last years. For example, Slav has been working for a large UK-based energy company for several years now. Initially, the back-end systems and APIs were either written in complicated, mathematically-proven languages, or set up in old legacy systems written in Java or PHP. The systems’ set up brought a lot of challenges for Slav and the team. Updating and maintaining the legacy systems quickly turned into an absolute nightmare due to the lack of right skillset. The above example, in Slav’s personal experience, depicts the best quality of Node.js. It is written in Javascript, which makes it intuitive. It is easy to find talented developers. To sump up, ever since Node.js was picked up by the company I work for, the time to market metric has drastically reduced.
Slav shares that Typescript allows enhancing the Javascript code by providing type assertions. By providing these types, typescript makes sure that you obey the specified types, when using the above methods. If the type signature is broken, it will not allow your application to compile until you resolve the type issue. Slav thinks that this is a game-changer when developing, as the code is less error-prone. In his opinion, this leads to questioning your initial assumptions, as you are constantly thinking of the types your next method is going to need and if those types are relevant.
Additionally, Slav believes that it also enhances your tests. Finally, it allows you to provide types for your app’s internal state. Тhen this helps you avoid mutating it unwillingly and helps you detect any unwanted circumstances. The use of typescript has definitely increased the reliability and stability of several delivered projects that Slav worked on, although it might have temporarily delayed some tasks.
For the last 2 years, Slav has been working on back-end tasks, where all of our services, APIs, and databases are hosted on Google’s cloud platform. Because of this, Slav had to spend time learning more about the cloud infrastructure requirements, and get these systems to work on the cloud. Also, he had to understand how to monitor and fix bugs. So, there are 2 tools that impressed Slav in this area – Docker and Terraform.
Docker’s allows you to encapsulate your application into a container. The container can be set up to work in any environment and any operating system (Mac, Windows or Linux).
Terraform – Terraform allows you to write “infrastructure as code”. This means that instead of making changes manually, you can create these universal configuration files. Those files can then be versioned (with Github or Flux) and used on multiple different cloud infrastructures.
